The WGBA covers an area of South West Scotland from Girvan to
Newton Stewart and includes the Machars and the Rhins of Galloway and is affiliated with the Scottish Beekeepers Association. The Association has 30 to 40 members and is committed to promoting the health of bees and the art of beekeeping, especially with regards to encouraging the younger generation to take up the mantle.
The Association runs locally held courses for both new and experienced beekeepers to a level which would allow them to take the National Beekeeping exams. The study groups have theoretical meetings in the winter and practical experience in the summer with Mentors for the inexperienced.
2015 saw the Association’s 80th birthday as we started on 23 April 1935.
